In a recent announcement on Saturday (December 23), the BCCI confirmed that Abhimanyu Easwaran will be stepping in to replace Ruturaj Gaikwad in the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa. Abhimanyu Easwaran replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad.

In January 2021, Abhimanyu Easwaran earned recognition as one of the five standby players in India’s Test squad for their home series against England. This designation highlighted his potential and standing in the cricketing circles.

Demonstrating his consistency and skills, he continued to be acknowledged in May 2021, being named as one of the four standby players in India’s Test squad for the final of the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship and their subsequent away series against England.

These selections underscored Abhimanyu’s stature as a reliable player and hinted at the selectors’ confidence in his abilities, paving the way for his potential inclusion in crucial matches for the national team.

After undergoing scans and consulting with experts, the decision was made to send Gaikwad to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to manage his injury. Additionally, seamer Harshit Rana won’t be participating in the four-day game against South Africa A in Benoni, commencing on December 26. Rana faced a setback due to a hamstring injury, and as a result, the selectors have also removed Kuldeep Yadav from that squad.

To fill the gaps, Sarfaraz Khan, Rinku Singh, Rajat Patidar, and Avesh Khan have been added to the South Africa A squad.
