Sachin Tendulkar Deepfake FIR:

In a recent development, the Mumbai Police have taken legal action against a gaming site and a Facebook page following the circulation of a deepfake video featuring cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. The manipulated video, shared on Facebook, falsely portrayed Tendulkar promoting a gaming app and incorrectly suggested that he and his daughter, Sara, had won substantial money through online gaming.

The First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Thursday, January 18, under section 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 66 (A) (sending offensive messages through communication service) of the Information Technology Act. According to news agency PTI, Tendulkar’s personal assistant filed the complaint at the West Region Cyber police station on Tuesday.

The complaint alleges that the video was edited and uploaded on Facebook, utilizing deepfake technology to mimic Sachin Tendulkar’s voice and mannerisms. The FIR aims to address the defamation caused by the false video and the offensive messages transmitted through the communication service.
