Pakistan player Sidra Ameen faced disciplinary action during the ICC Women’s Championship series against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Saturday, resulting in a fine and a demerit point.

Violation of ICC Code of Conduct

Sidra Ameen’s actions breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which specifically addresses “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.”

Incident Details

During the sixth over of Pakistan’s innings, Sidra Ameen expressed dissent after being declared leg before wicket, leading to the charges filed by on-field umpires Masudur Rahman and Morshed Ali Khan, alongside third umpire Muhammad Kamruzzaman and fourth umpire Sajedul Islam.

Penalty and Response

As a consequence of her actions, Sidra received a 10 percent fine of her match fee and an additional demerit point, marking her first offense within a 24-month period. She acknowledged the offense and accepted the proposed sanction from Neeyamur Rashid of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees, consequently bypassing the need for a formal hearing.

Understanding the Consequences

According to the ICC guidelines, Level 1 breaches carry a range of penalties, including an official reprimand, a maximum fine of 50 percent of the player’s match fee, and the addition of one or two demerit points.

It is imperative for players to uphold the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship, ensuring the integrity of the game and fostering a respectful environment on the field.

Players and officials alike must maintain a high standard of conduct, reflecting the values of sportsmanship and respect, which are fundamental to the spirit of cricket. Such actions contribute to the maintenance of a competitive yet respectful atmosphere within the sport.
