Western Australia Charges into Marsh One-Day Cup Final:

In a match marred by injuries for Tasmania, the home side’s chase of 320 runs suffered a blow as Mac Wright and Mitch Owens were forced off the field due to injuries sustained while fielding.

Despite Tasmania’s valiant effort, their hopes of reaching the final dwindled rapidly as they were bowled out for 268 runs in just 36.2 overs.

Western Australia, the two-time defending champions, will now travel to New South Wales for the final showdown on February 25, with the Sydney venue yet to be decided. WA’s dominance in the competition is evident as they have played in five of the last six finals, finishing third in the other season.

The foundation for Western Australia’s imposing total was laid by opener D’Arcy Short, who hammered 127 runs off 121 balls, including 15 boundaries and a six. Cameron Bancroft’s contribution of 64 runs in a crucial 147-run partnership with Short further bolstered WA’s innings.

Sam Whiteman’s 49 and late contributions from Hilton Cartwright (23 not out) and Nick Hobson (29 not out) ensured that WA posted a formidable total on the board.

In Tasmania’s bowling effort, Billy Stanlake was the only bowler to take multiple wickets, finishing with figures of 2-54 from his 10 overs.

Despite Charlie Wakim’s exceptional one-handed catch in the deep to dismiss Whiteman, Tasmania’s batting fell short of the mammoth target set by WA. Wakim top-scored with 68 runs, while Jordan Silk contributed 61, but no batsman in the top order could muster the century Tasmania needed to chase down the target.

Western Australia’s debutant Bryce Jackson impressed with figures of 3-67 from his nine overs, while Ashton Agar also played a crucial role with the ball, claiming 3-57 from his allotted 10 overs.
