Alyssa Healy has officially become the full-time captain

Alyssa Healy has officially become the full-time captain for Australia in all formats. She took over the leadership role in June during series against England, Ireland, and West Indies. This move comes as Meg Lanning, the former captain, recently retired from international cricket.

In addition, Tahlia McGrath has been appointed as Healy’s deputy. McGrath, who led Adelaide Strikers to consecutive WBBL titles, has also captained the Australian team on a few occasions in recent times. The new leadership duo is set to guide Australia in the upcoming cricket ventures.

I am honoured to accept the role of captain and am grateful for the opportunity to lead our team,” Healy said. “I’ve really enjoyed the support of the players over the past few months and their encouragement to continue to be who I am and lead the group like I normally would from within.

“My approach will remain consistent to what it has been previously, but I’ll make my own mark on the role and be sure that I’m doing the best I possibly can for this group to maintain the success that we’ve had.”

Alyssa Healy was appointed Australia’s vice-captain in October last year after Rachael Haynes retired. However, she quickly took on the role of stand-in captain for Australia’s tour of India in December, leading the team to a 4-1 victory in the T20I series. Under Healy’s captaincy, Australia also successfully retained the Ashes this year. Her upcoming challenge is in India later this month, where Australia is set to participate in a multi-format series.
