Cheteshwar Pujara is set to kick off the 2024 County Championship season with Sussex, playing in the first seven games. Following that, Daniel Hughes will take over from Pujara and be in action from the beginning of the T20 Vitality Blast until the season’s end, covering the remaining County matches.
Paul Farbrace, the Head Coach of Sussex, has decided not to include Pujara in the lineup for the 2024 Domestic One Day Cup. For the upcoming season, the team has secured the services of overseas bowlers Jayden Seales and Nathan McAndrew.

In the realm of first-class cricket, Hughes boasts an average of 36.90, with his highest individual score being an impressive 178. Over 137 innings, he has notched up 26 half-centuries and eight centuries, showcasing his prowess as a batsman.
Hughes’s stellar performances have not gone unnoticed, as he clinched two Steve Waugh medals in the seasons 2017-18 and 2019-20. Additionally, he was honored as the Marsh One-Day Cup Player of the Season for the New South Wales Blues, underlining his impact across different formats of the game.
