Gautam Gambhir, the ex-India opener, shared a humorous story from the 2014 IPL season. Back then, Gambhir was leading the Kolkata Knight Riders and had a rough start, getting out for zero in the first three matches. In a funny incident with Ashish Nehra, the former fast bowler jokingly suggested that Gambhir should “have a duck for dinner” to avoid getting out for a fourth consecutive time.
Speaking on ANI news youtube channel Gambhir revealed, “Four or five guys from Delhi were sitting together at the dinner table. Ashish Nehra ordered a duck. He told me to have the duck for dinner; otherwise, I might get another duck in the next match. I just tasted it. I scored one run in that match, and Nehra even messaged me after that.”
Gambhir After being dismissed constantly for ducks and for the three time in a row, Gambhir revealed on news that he even had a chat with the team’s co-owner mr. Shahrukh Khan. Gautam said that he wanted himself to be dropped from the team’s playing 11, but Shahrukh khan was totally against this plan of ghambhir.

“2014 in Abu Dhabi, I started the IPL with three ducks in a row. I got a one in the fourth game. We had lost four out of our first five matches. We were coming back to Ritz Carlton after we lost the game. He was standing in the lobby. He took me to the side and asked what was happening. I said I was thinking of dropping myself.
“He told me, ’till you are there and you want to be there, you are not dropping yourself,’ He asked me to promise him that I would play every game until I was there. I got two or three half-centuries in a row and we won in 2014. That was my only cricket conversation with him in seven years of my captaincy,” Gambhir recalled
Following a challenging beginning to the tournament, where they faced four losses in the initial five matches, the Kolkata franchise made a remarkable turnaround and secured their second IPL title. Under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir, KKR claimed the championship. Since Gambhir’s departure from the team, Kolkata Knight Riders haven’t clinched another IPL title. As they gear up for the IPL 2024 season, the Kolkata team has appointed Gautam as their new mentor.
