Ind vs sa 1st test , Indian Cricket in Crisis: Shocking Collapse Unravels Dreams in South Africa – What Went Wrong?

Ind vs Sa 1st test – India’s quest for victory in South Africa has been deferred, with a disappointing batting collapse on the third evening in Centurion, leading to their downfall at 131 all out in just over 34 overs. This handed South Africa a convincing win by an innings and 32 runs, putting them ahead 1-0 in the two-match series.

Ind vs Sa 1st test , India collapsed against south africa.

The Indian batting performance sharply contrasted with South Africa’s earlier display, highlighted by Dean Elgar’s impressive 185 and Marco Jansen’s career-best 84*. Despite the hosts’ lead of 163, the Indian batsmen struggled against the lively pace and bounce on the challenging Centurion pitch.

After Kagiso Rabada’s five-wicket haul in the first innings, this time it was Nandre Burger and Marco Jansen, employing their left-arm angles, who wreaked havoc, sharing seven wickets on the same surface where India’s bowlers had to toil for 108.4 overs to pick nine wickets.

South Africa’s Bowlers set the tone for the match.

Rabada set the tone once again, dismissing Rohit Sharma with a remarkable delivery that breached the batter’s forward defense and shattered the stumps. The troubles continued at the other end, with Yashasvi Jaiswal gloving one behind to an extra-bouncing delivery from Burger, while Shubman Gill fell victim to a full ball from Marco Jansen. Shreyas Iyer also found Jansen’s round-the-wicket angle challenging, chopping onto the stumps soon after.

Burger then struck twice in consecutive balls, first dismissing first-innings centurion KL Rahul caught at second slip and then having Ravichandran Ashwin edging to gully. India lost their last five wickets for only 35 runs, and the innings concluded fittingly when Virat Kohli, the lone batter comfortable in the middle, was dismissed for 76 with a stunning catch by Rabada at long-on.

India’s day started on the wrong foot, allowing Elgar and Jansen to score freely, amassing 136 runs in the morning session. The familiar pattern unfolded: navigate through Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, then capitalize on Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur.

Prasidh conceded 24 runs in his first three overs, prompting his replacement by Thakur, who, unfortunately, didn’t fare much better. However, Thakur did produce a magic delivery to dismiss Elgar, a lifter that the former SA captain couldn’t handle, resulting in a glove behind. The wicket ended an 111-run partnership between the duo for the sixth wicket, a period that frustrated India and significantly tilted the Test in South Africa’s favor.

After Tea, India showed some resilience, taking 8.4 overs to dismiss South Africa. Although Bumrah, somewhat below his best, claimed four wickets, Rohit Sharma’s team found themselves on the back foot throughout the Test after conceding a substantial lead on a challenging surface. The subsequent efforts of the pacers, while commendable, couldn’t completely alter the script.
