India vs England Test Series – India has chosen Dhruv Jurel, a 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman from Uttar Pradesh, to be part of the 16-member squad for the first two Tests against England in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. Jurel joins KL Rahul and KS Bharat as the third wicketkeeper in the squad, but Ishan Kishan is notably absent.
Rahul Dravid, the head coach of the Indian team, explained that Ishan Kishan is not included in the T20I series against Afghanistan because he requested a break. Dravid mentioned that Kishan will focus on playing domestic cricket and make himself available for selection when he feels prepared. Although Kishan was expected to be one of the specialist keepers for the spin-friendly home pitches, his absence provides an opportunity for Dhruv Jurel to shine in the senior team.
Dhruv Jurel, who made his IPL debut last season, has been progressing well. After being named in the squad for the Emerging Teams Asia Cup, he traveled to South Africa with the India A team, where he kept wickets in the second unofficial Test. Additionally, Jurel is part of the team set to face England Lions in the first multi-day fixture in Ahmedabad, starting January 17. With experience in 15 first-class games and an impressive average of 46.47, Jurel is making a strong case for his inclusion.
Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan, who showed promise at Newlands, retain their spots in the squad. Unfortunately, Prasidh Krishna, the tall pacer from Karnataka, is left out due to a left quadriceps injury he sustained during the ongoing Ranji Trophy, following a challenging couple of Tests.
