Reflecting on the impending landmark, Bairstow quipped, “It is going to be an emotional week. Absolutely. I am very proud, I am an emotional kind of guy. So at some point get the tears ready, the tissues even.” For any cricketer, reaching a century of Test appearances is a significant achievement, and Bairstow acknowledged the weight it carried. “It means a hell of a lot. Every young kid that sets out on a journey of playing professional cricket wants to try and play a 100 Test matches,” he expressed.

The Dharamsala Test promised a special atmosphere with 5000 England fans filling the stands, including Bairstow’s friends and family. Their presence added an extra layer of significance to the occasion. “It’s great to have them [friends and family] out here. It’s an amazing place to come. They’ve come to some pretty cool places along the way as well,” Bairstow shared, highlighting the joy of sharing the moment with loved ones.

Despite his desire to mark the milestone with a century, Bairstow remained focused on contributing to the team’s success. Despite a mixed performance in the series so far, Bairstow maintained his positive attitude, saying, “Like in every game, you put your best foot forward… Whatever the situation is, we’ll be going out there with smiles on our faces, like we have done in the whole series.”

Bairstow’s journey in Test cricket has been filled with memorable moments, including Andrew Strauss’s final Test and his own maiden Test century. Reflecting on past highlights, he singled out games against New Zealand and India in 2022 as particularly special, moments that showcased the team’s unity and resilience.

As England aimed to make history by winning two Tests in a series in India for the first time since 2012, Bairstow’s experience and determination provided a crucial foundation for their aspirations. With the spotlight on his century milestone, Bairstow remained committed to contributing to the team’s success, embodying the spirit of resilience and determination that defines Test cricket.
