Shivam Dube showcased his batting skills, steering India to a convincing six-wicket victory against Afghanistan in the inaugural T20I clash in Mohali on Thursday. Dube’s impressive innings of 60 runs off 40 balls set the stage for India’s triumph, marking a strong beginning to their lone T20I series ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Interestingly, former Indian all-rounder Suresh Raina was more captivated by Dube’s bowling performance. Post-match, Raina commended Dube for his crucial wicket-taking contribution against Ibrahim Zadran. He predicted that MS Dhoni, the skipper of Chennai Super Kings, would likely utilize Dube as a genuine bowler in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

“Mahi bhai sunn lo aap (listen to this),” dube said

Dube’s half-century took center stage in India’s easy six-wicket victory on Thursday, securing him the player of the match accolade.

“When I came to bat, I wanted to implement what I have learnt from MS Dhoni about finishing games. I keep speaking to Mahi bhai. He tells me about how to tackle different situations. He has given me two-three tips and rated my batting.

“So, I feel if he rates my batting then I’ll keep playing well. My confidence went up because of that,” Dubey said.

Dubey’s last outing for India was during last year’s Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Although he was part of the Indian squad for the home T20I series against Australia, he didn’t get an opportunity to play and was subsequently not chosen for the away series against South Africa.

Dubey also observed shades of Dhoni’s leadership in the way Rohit Sharma captained the team, providing him the room to showcase his skills.

“Both allow me to bat higher in the order. There’s a lot of work to be done and I know they will back me and want me to do well. So, that makes me feel a lot more positive,” he added.
