Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s Stunning Comeback!

Earlier, Mujeeb, along with Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq, had refused to sign the central contract for 2024. While Mujeeb missed the T20I series against the UAE to participate in the Big Bash League, the other two played in the series after discussions with the board. The ACB revoked Mujeeb’s No Objection Certificate, abruptly ending his stint in the BBL.

Rashid Khan, the regular T20I captain, is also included in the 19-member squad, but his participation is uncertain as he continues to recover from a recent back surgery. Ibrahim Zadran will lead the team in the three-match series against India, and Ikram Alikhil serves as the backup wicketkeeper-batsman, having been in the reserves for the UAE series.

Afghanistan squad: Ibrahim Zadran (C), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Ikram Alikhil (WK), Hazratullah Zazai, Rahmat Shah, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Karim Janat, Azmaullah Omarzai, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad, Naveen Ul Haq, Noor Ahmad, Mohammad Saleem, Qais Ahmad, Gulbadin Naib and Rashid Khan.

ACB chairman Mirwais Ashraf said: “We are delighted to be embarking on our maiden tour to India for a three-match series. India is the top-ranked side in the world and it’s very pleasing to witness AfghanAtalan competing in a three-match T20I against them. We believe that AfghanAtalan are no longer underdogs & have excelled well in the recent past and we look forward to a highly competitive series against India.”

The series will kick off with the first game scheduled for January 11 in Mohali, followed by matches in Indore on January 14 and Bengaluru on January 17. India holds the top position in the T20I rankings, while Afghanistan is currently placed 10th.
