In a gripping day of Test cricket, India’s spin maestro Ravichandran Ashwin reflected on the conditions and praised the fearless approach of young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who, alongside Rohit Sharma, steered India into a promising position against England.

The first day of the Test match witnessed intriguing twists and turns, and Ashwin provided insights into the challenges posed by the pitch. He noted, “It was pretty interesting in the first session, maybe there was a bit of moisture. Because of the early moisture, there was enough speed in the pitch in the first session. Then it slowed down.”
*In a game where adapting to changing conditions is crucial, Ashwin emphasized the need to mix pace and maintain consistency. He commented on the challenging nature of the pitch, stating, “You need to mix your pace up and be extremely consistent for you to not be giving runs in this pitch.”
Despite the challenges, England managed to post a competitive total of 240 runs, with Ashwin terming it as a “very, very good competitive total.” However, he admitted, “When we left the field, I was thinking probably 30-40 runs more than what we would have liked.”

Drawing an interesting comparison, Ashwin remarked, “I get a feeling sometimes when he’s batting, I am seeing Rishabh Pant there. Both of them bat similarly to the left-arm spinner. Jaiswal has got a lot of shots; his range is pretty wide, and the fearless approach at the moment is serving him really well.”
