In some recent news, Suryakumar Yadav, the top-ranked T20I batsman in the world, has just had a second surgery, this time on his groin, in Germany. The surgery, carried out by a specialist in Munich, happened on Wednesday, and Suryakumar is expected to be back on his feet within a week.
This surgery is all about fixing a groin or sports hernia, something similar to what KL Rahul had done in 2022. Normally, recovery from such surgeries takes around four to five weeks, but in Suryakumar’s case, it might take a bit longer due to some complications.

I want to thank everyone for their concerns and well wishes for my health , and i am happy to tell you all that i will be back very soon.
This comes right after his ankle surgery, which he had to get after getting injured during a T20 International series in South Africa last month. Even with these setbacks, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is optimistic about Suryakumar’s comeback. He’s aiming to be back in action for the Indian Premier League (IPL), starting in late March, and the BCCI is confident he’ll be fully ready for the T20 World Cup in June.
The National Cricket Academy (NCA) has been making careful decisions to make sure Suryakumar gets the right treatment and preparation. They’ve done this successfully before with players like Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul, who all came back fit for the World Cup last year. Suryakumar was already going through rehab at the NCA before he headed to Munich this week.
Usually, hernia or groin surgeries aren’t considered too serious. People who have them can often start light activities like jogging from the second day onwards. However, Suryakumar’s case is a bit different because of his recent ankle surgery. Despite the challenges, he seems to be in good spirits, as seen in a picture he posted after the surgery on Wednesday night, with his wife Devisha by his side.
