Yashasvi Jaiswal recently made headlines during the 2nd Test against England in Visakhapatnam by scoring his first Test double-century. At just 22 years old, he showed great skill and determination, becoming the third-youngest Indian to achieve this milestone. His impressive performance helped India reach a total of 396 runs in their first innings.
While Gambhir praised Jaiswal for his achievement, he also cautioned against going overboard with the hype. He wants fans to appreciate Jaiswal’s talent without putting too much pressure on him.
I want to congratulate the youngster for his achievement but, more importantly, I want to tell everyone that let the young man play. We have seen in the past that in India we have a habit, especially the media, to over-hype their achievements and give them tags and make them look like heroes.
“The pressure of expectation gets the better of them, and the players are not able to play their natural game.
The former player from Delhi emphasized the importance of patience regarding Shubman Gill’s current challenges.
“Let him grow and enjoy his cricket. We should give them time as they are quality players, and they have shown it in the past with their performance. That is why they are playing for India.”
While Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved a double-century, Shubman Gill faced difficulties in scoring big runs for the third consecutive innings. Gill, a right-handed batsman, scored two low totals in Hyderabad before being caught behind by James Anderson for 34 runs.
