Lizelle Lee’s impressive 91 off 54 balls, including 12 fours and 2 sixes, took center stage in Hobart Hurricanes’ 24-run win over Sydney Thunder at the Aurora Stadium in Launceston. Despite Phoebe Litchfield’s efforts to lead Thunder’s chase, her team fell short of the target due to a lack of support.

The Hurricanes’ victory was established on the solid opening-wicket partnership between Lee and captain Elyse Villani, which added 68 runs to the board. Villani contributed 40 runs off 34 balls before being dismissed, but Lee continued to dominate even after her partner’s departure. Although Thunder managed to dismiss Bryony Smith for just five runs, Lee found a reliable partner in Heather Graham. Lee surpassed 50 runs during their partnership and almost carried her bat through the innings before being dismissed on the penultimate ball. Nonetheless, her efforts helped the team set a formidable total of 174 for 3.

Thunder struggled to form meaningful partnerships to challenge such a total. While Chamari Athapaththu and Tahlia Wilson had a slow start, they managed to survive the PowerPlay. However, the Hurricanes’ bowlers struck in quick succession during the middle overs, leaving Thunder reeling at 39 for 3 by the 9th over. Litchfield and Marizanne Kapp attempted to revive the chase with a fourth-wicket partnership, but it was broken in the 14th over. Anika Leoroyd tried to accelerate the scoring, but her contribution lasted only 12 balls. Litchfield’s 43-ball 68, including six fours and four sixes, was an impressive effort, but it wasn’t sufficient to secure victory for her side.
