The Brisbane Heat had a strong start to their new season, but it quickly turned sour when they were convincingly defeated by the Adelaide Strikers. Despite a promising start from Nicola Hancock, who took out the Strikers’ openers early on, the Strikers managed to recover thanks to an impressive partnership led by Bridget Patterson, who scored a quick 70 runs off just 53 balls. Although Patterson was eventually dismissed just before the end, Madeline Penna’s unbeaten 36 helped the Strikers finish with a total of 148/4.

The Strikers didn’t stop there. They began their bowling attack strongly, swiftly taking down the Heat’s top four players within the first six overs. Georgia Redmayne was out for a duck, followed by Mignon du Preez who was run out for just 1. Grace Harris and Georgia Voll didn’t last long either, each scoring only 15 runs. Bess Heath’s dismissal without scoring any runs left the Heat in a tough spot at 39/5, needing a miracle.

Unfortunately for the Heat, that miracle never came. The Strikers continued to take wickets, leaving Jess Jonassen as the only batter to cross the 20-run mark. The Heat’s batting lineup crumbled, and they were all out for just 89 runs with four overs still remaining.

In summary, the Adelaide Strikers Women clinched a victory, with Bridget Patterson’s impressive 70 runs leading the way, supported by Madeline Penna’s unbeaten 36. Their bowlers, including Amanda-Jade Wellington and Megan Schutt, did an excellent job, taking down the Heat’s batting order, resulting in a 59-run victory.
