Australia won their match against New Zealand by 5 runs which was running on dharamshala , himachal pradesh with help of heroic performance of their opening batsman’s travis head and david warner.

The gap is widening between the top four and the rest. Australia have now won 4 on the trot, while it is a second successive loss for New Zealand. The Trans-Tasman rivarly lived up to the hype and we were treated to some amazing ball-strking from both teams.

Australia bats first and with explosive start of their opening batsman they were right from the start dominating the other side where warner scored 81 out 65 deliveries and travis head scored 109 out of 67 balls , then first warner and then head got out by the part time bowler glenn phillips , then australian middle order did’t gave much support except fast 40 of maxwell on 24 balls and later cummins with his batting put up ending show to australian’s 1st innings , where they got all out for 388 in 49.2 overs .

In second inning new zealand opening batsman gave them nice and explosive start which did’t last much and their opening pair got out but after 2 dismisals new zealand’s middle order batsman controls the situation and keep scoring runs at a steady rate where the lefty batsman rachin ravindra scored his 2nd hundred in this world cup which comes at a strike rate of 130 , he scored 116 out of 89 balls along with support of daryl mitchell who scored 54 out of 51 balls but this was not enough to chase down the big total of 388 at the end james neesham also made 58 runs out of 39 balls but still new zealand were not able to cross the line.

Travis head becomes the player of the match for his 109 runs innings , in post match presentation he said, ” Nice to be back. Nice to be contributing. Nice to get the win, got very close there, was a hell of a game. I had only had a couple of hits (since returning from injury). Obviously had a six-7 weeks off. I think so (asked if it is just about getting the confidence back on return). Few blokes found it tough out there, keep pushing with the bat. We (him and Warner) play together really well. We complement each other really well, make sure we stay connected with each other and stay with each other”.

What a thrilling game of cricket. Absolute eye-feast and a much-needed one for this tournament. In an ideal scenario, chasing 389 – you need someone from the top 3 to get a big score, a cameo from a couple of batters and a decent start. New Zealand got all of it but still failed to get past the finish line. Perhaps you can attribute a little part to bad luck, but fielding is something New Zealand dearly pride themselves on and unfortunately for them today, they weren’t at their best and it did seem to be one of the major difference between sides. Rachin Ravindra played the best knock of his life and his century ensured the Kiwis were on level with Australia (292/5) at the end of 40 overs. The untimely wickets of Phillips and Latham combined with absence of a set batter in the last 9 overs came back to haunt New Zealand. All said and done, Australia seized the crunch moments and their fielding effort too (barring a couple of blips) deserves a special mention, especially in the last couple of overs.
