Praveen Kumar, a former fast bowler for the Indian cricket team, recently disclosed that he had not initially chosen Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the first season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In a candid conversation with Lallantop, Praveen shared how his hesitation to join RCB, and his preference for Delhi Daredevils due to its proximity to his hometown Meerut, led to an unexpected reaction from Lalit Modi.
According to Praveen, after unwittingly signing a contract from an RCB official, when he expressed his desire to join Delhi Daredevils, IPL commissioner L. Modi threatened to end his cricketing career.”

“I did not want to play for RCB because Bangalore was quite far away from my place, I didn’t know English, and the food was not to my liking. Delhi is quite close to Meerut, which would have allowed me to travel to my home once in a while. However, there was a person who made me sign a paper. I did not know it was the contract. I told them I wanted to play for Delhi and not Bangalore. Lalit Modi called me and threatened to end my career,” Praveen said in the interview.
In a surprising turn, Praveen Kumar also touched upon ball-tampering, acknowledging its prevalence among players. He noted that Pakistani bowlers were particularly adept at using ball-tampering to enhance reverse swing, a skill that emerged as a potent weapon for fast bowlers in the 1990s.

During the interview with Lallantop, Praveen shed light on the practice of scratching one side of the ball for reverse swing. He emphasized that even with tampering, skill remained crucial for effectively utilizing reverse swing in bowling.
