Rishabh Pant is gearing up for a return to the cricket field, with strong indications that he’ll be part of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The Delhi Capitals management has officially announced that Pant, who has been sidelined for almost a year, will lead the team in the 2024 IPL.

Rishabh Pant Currently in the process of rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, Pant is expected to regain full fitness by the end of February. However, his active participation in IPL matches hinges on receiving clearance from NCA managers.
After a series of setbacks, including surgery on his right knee following a near-fatal accident on New Year’s Eve last year, as well as dealing with back and ankle injuries, there’s uncertainty about Pant’s ability to take on wicketkeeping duties during the IPL. Franchise officials have clarified that his role as a wicketkeeper will be determined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). If not keeping, Pant will focus on batting and fielding rather than being solely designated as an Impact Player for the team.
Pant missed the entire IPL season last year, and his absence was keenly felt by the Delhi Capitals, who finished ninth in the points table. The Capitals are now pinning their hopes on the inspirational leader to turn their fortunes around in the upcoming season.
Having missed a significant number of international games since January 2023, including the four-Test home series against Australia, the 2023 IPL, and various other series, Pant’s return is eagerly anticipated. While he is likely to miss the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan and the crucial five-Test series against England in February and March, his availability for the IPL season adds a positive twist to his comeback story.
