Gujarat Titans (GT) announced Indian opener and stand out performer Shubman Gill as their franchise’s new captain for new IPL 2024 edition . shubman gill will replace Hardik Pandya the former player and captain of the Gujarat titans at the helm beacuse the indian all-rounder has moved to his old IPL team Mumbai Indians (MI) in a massive all-cash trade on Monday.
Shubman Gill proved to be one of best batsman for the Titans , Gujarat signed him in IPL 2022 and he became their second-highest run-scorer with 483 runs in 16 matches. Gill emerged as the orange cap holder in his next year with titans and helped them to reach the finals and he brings his batting performance to another level in 2023 IPL season where he smashed 890 runs from 17 matches .
“I am delighted and proud to assume the Captaincy of Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for their trust in me to lead such a fine team. We have had two exceptional seasons and I keenly look forward to leading the team with our exciting brand of cricket,” gill said in a statement
At just 24 of years age, Gill is going to face the challanging task of stepping into some significant shoes. Hailing from Gujarat, Hardik, a local lad, guided the Titans to their maiden title in 2022 and backed it up with a commendable runners-up finish in 2023. His reputation extended beyond the field, known for fostering a strong and unified culture within the team’s dressing room.
In the upcoming IPL season, Gill will be captain of the Gujarat Titans the youngest captains, taking on the leadership role with the support of coaching of Ashish Nehra and Gary Kirsten. Despite lacking international captaincy experience, Gill has previously captained his state team on a few occasions and served as India’s vice-captain in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. The challenge ahead may be significant, but Gill brings a mix of youth and leadership experience to the forefront as he embarks on this new chapter in his cricketing journey.
