The selection panel has opted to introduce fresh talent to the squad, with wicketkeeper-batter Lahiru Udara, along with fast bowlers Chamika Gunasekara and Milan Rathnayake, receiving their maiden call-ups. While Udara and Gunasekara have previously represented the national side in T20Is and ODIs respectively, Rathnayake is set to make his debut across all formats.

Notably, the selectors have omitted Lakshitha Mansinghe, Praveen Jayawickrama, and Pathum Nissanka from the squad that faced Pakistan in their previous Test assignment. Despite being included in the squad against Pakistan, Nissanka did not feature in any matches. Meanwhile, Dilshan Madushanka, who debuted in the same series, has been left out of consideration as he is currently engaged in the ILT20.
