Why Joe root opted out of IPL 2024.

Joe Root, the cricket player from England, won’t be playing in the IPL 2024, as confirmed by the Rajasthan Royals on Saturday, November 25. This comes before the team’s retention process. Root is now the second well-known English cricketer, following Ben Stokes, to decide not to participate in the competition.

Kumar Sangakkara, the Director of Cricket for the Royals, shared in a statement, “When we talked about retaining players, Joe let us know that he won’t be part of IPL 2024. Even though he was with us for a short time, Joe had a really positive impact on the team and the players. We’ll miss his energy and experience with the Royals. We completely respect his decision and wish him success in everything he does.”

Root was selected by the Royals as their last overseas player in the auction before the 2023 season, and he had a base price of INR 1 Crore. Trying to make a comeback in T20 cricket, Root played only three games for the Royals, with a chance to bat in just one of them.

“The 32-year-old’s addition to the Royals squad brought in plenty of depth and experience, which served as a learning experience for a lot of youngsters in the side like Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal in the team,” Royals said in their statement.

Royals have added fast bowler Avesh Khan to their ranks ahead of the IPL auction by trading him for Devdutt Padikkal who has gone the other way to join Lucknow Super Giants.
