Adelaide Strikers choose to bowl first.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, the Thunder made an immediate impact, dismissing Katie Mack for a golden duck off the first ball. Tahlia McGrath fell soon after to Marizanne Kapp, but Laura Wolvaardt provided some respite, scoring freely. However, the Strikers found themselves in trouble at 31-4 after the run-out of Bridget Patterrson and the wicket of Madeline Penna. A brief recovery came from Wolvaardt and Danielle Gibson, with a 43-run partnership. Despite losing wickets in quick succession, a crucial 41-run stand between Megan Schutt and Wolvaardt, off 22 deliveries, propelled the Strikers to a total of 121, scoring at a pace of more than a run per ball.

Sydney Thunder faced early setback.

In reply, the Sydney Thunder faced an early setback as Chamari Athapaththu was dismissed for a duck in the first over by Jemma Barsby. Megan Schutt further dented their progress by removing Phoebe Litchfield. Despite some resistance, the middle order crumbled to 67-6 in the chase. A late fightback from Tahlia Wilson, who put on 47 with Sammy-Jo Johnson, kept the Thunder in the game. However, with Wilson dismissed off the penultimate ball and eight runs needed off the last ball, Lauren Smith’s four wasn’t sufficient, and the Strikers secured victory by a slim margin of three runs.

Brief Scores: Adelaide Strikers 121-7 in 20 overs (Laura Wolvaardt 70*, Marizanne Kapp 2-23) beat Sydney Thunder 118-7 in 20 overs (Tahlia Wilson 33, Megan Schutt 2-23) by 3 runs.
